Splash Accent Ideas for Scrapbooking

by Joannie McBride

Summer is here and you need some creative ways to boost the energy and color on your scrapbook pages.

Try making a splash on your summer layout! Combine waves cut from patterned paper with chipboard swirls and swirly machine stitching to give your layout a nautical feel.

Arrange the wave accents around your photos to make it look like the waves are coming out from behind the photo. This is a fantastic technique for layouts about visits to the pool or backyard water play with buckets, sprinklers, squirt guns, or kiddie pools. Not only does it enhance the pictures it surrounds, but it brings life to the memories you've created.

Just Add Water by Cindy Tobey. Supplies: Patterned paper, brad, buttons, and chipboard: Fancy Pants Designs; Ribbon and rub-ons: American Crafts; Baker's twine: Martha Stewart Crafts; Stickers: American Crafts and Doodlebug Design; Photo corner: Advantus; Paint: Making Memories; Pens: American Crafts and Newell Rubbermaid; Font: Colaborate Light; Adhesive: American Crafts, Helmar, and Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L; Other: Staples, thread, and vellum.

Design Tip: If your letter rub-ons or stickers don't have enough contrast against your background, consider using a white gel pen to outline them.

For another easy water look, add this downloadable wave accent to your summer layout.
