Scrapbook the Essence of Summer

by Joannie McBride

When you want to scrapbook the moments that capture the essence of summertime play---bubbles, green grass, pink flowery dresses---follow Stephanie Baxter's design in her "Summer Sun" layout. She uses a flower pattern combined with a yellow polka-dotted pattern in the background to create a whimsical, light feel.

Be sure to capture the right balance between these two patterns in order to keep the layout from looking too busy. Tastefully done, it can brighten the tone of the overall layout and paint the rest of the summer scene. See below for additional tips.

Summer Sun by Stephanie Baxter. Supplies: Cardstock and adhesive: American Crafts; Patterned paper and die cuts: October Afternoon; Stickers: American Crafts and October Afternoon; Punches: Martha Stewart Crafts and Westcott; Font: Little Days; Other: Clothespin.

Design Tip: Combine smaller prints to create a dainty look, perfect for summer layouts about little girls at play. Pair the small prints with a delicate script font to continue the feel.

Design Tip: Add a white mat to your photos and place them on your layout on a slight diagonal for an updated filmstrip look.
