Scrapbook Inspiration: Journal Over a Photo

Make a teen scrapbook layout inspired by items in her room, her dreams, or her favorite activities. In the July/August 2013 Creating Keepsakes issue, Cindy Tobey added touches to her layout based on her daughter's room such as yarn flowers to resemble the purple, shag rug she loves. She also layered journaling over one of the photos to create a funky look.

Here's a closeup of the photo with text layered over it. Note, this is a design element and not meant to be readable journaling.

Other design tips:

  • Create a unique envelope from a printed scan of one of your teen’s drawings or stories, then attach it to your layout to hold extra photos or copies of their creative works of art.
  • Cluster photos and accents together in several small groupings to gently guide your viewer’s eye through your layout.
  • Add texture with buttons, pearls, sequins, pom-poms and more.
