CK Sketches column: November/December 2011

by Lori Fairbanks

In honor of Creating Keepsakes magazine's 15th anniversary, we're revisiting the scrapbook layout sketch featured in our very first sketch column, "One Look, Three Concepts" by Becky Higgins, which debuted in the July/August 2002 issue of Creating Keepsakes. You'll enjoy the straightforward simplicity of this well-organized sketch. Here are two versions of this fun design for you to try on your scrapbook layouts!

Girl Time in London by Laura McCollough, as seen in the 2011 November/December issue.

Design Tip: Use borders to ground elements on your scrapbook pages, like Laura McCollough did on her layout by adding a border strip below her title and along the edges of her photo groupings.

All Is Calm, All Is Bright by Jana Morton, as seen in the 2011 November/December issue.

Design Tip: Direct attention to your focal photo using one of the strategies Jana Morton employed on the photo on the far left of her layout: slightly angle the photo to visually offset it from the other elements on the layout. Or make the focal photo larger than the other photos on your layout to give it extra prominence.
