Calls for Submissions: Jan-Feb 2014

Creating Keepsakes January/February 2014 Submission Call

It's a new year and with that comes a list of things we want to do and accomplish. The Jan/Feb 2014 issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine is all about starting the new year off on the right foot with ideas for using your stash in fresh ways, tips for trying new things (ex. stepping up your die cutting), and pointers for scrapbooking about the things you love. So get your creativity revved up and submit your amazing layouts for the following sections.

Below is the information for themes and projects we're looking for in the January/February 2014 issue of Creating Keepsakes.

Love, Actually

February is known for spotlighting that special someone, but we want to do things a little differently this time around. We want to see scrapbook pages about the many other loves in your life, whether that's other loved ones (children, friends, pets, etc.) or things and activities you can't get enough of. Because love, actually, is about so much more than a box of chocolates from your sweetheart. We're blessed with lives filled with people, places, activities, and things on our love lists, and we want to take the month of amore to celebrate those blessings.

Here are a few ideas to get you started.

• Books
• Children
• Extended family
• Hobbies
• Food
• Pets
• Friends
• Places
• Scrapbooking product
• Siblings
• Activities (hiking, traveling, gardening, etc.)
• Etc.

Priority will be given to never before seen, 2-page, multi-photo layouts.

Submissions Due
July 15, 2013, at midnight MDT. Submissions received after this time won't be considered.

What to Provide
Please provide a digital image of your layout. If you're submitting a two-page spread, please submit each page of the spread as a separate image. In addition to your image(s), please include a detailed supply list and any information on techniques or items to note about your layout.

How to Submit
Email submissions to editorial@creatingkeepsakes.com with Love, Actually in the subject line. Please note that no response will be sent when your submission is received but if we decide to publish your submission we will notify you no later than Friday, July 19, 2013.

And the Award Goes To...

Have you dreamed of winning an Academy Award? Well, who says you need a red carpet or an academy to recognize the award-winning moments in your life? How about these:

• Fashion Faux Pas: kids dressing themselves, ugly sweater day at work, etc.
• Best Actor/Actress: school plays, temper tantrums, hamming it up with friends, etc.
• Best Director: Mom or Dad doing the parent thing, kid bossing a sibling, friend wrangling other friends in an activity, etc.
• Best Score: school sport, church sports, pick-up ball on the driveway, etc.
• Cinematography: beautiful scenery photos, scenic trips/vacations, etc.
• Best Documentary: candid moments, everyday life, etc.
• Best Picture: favorite pictures from the previous year or month (tell us why)
• Best Production Design: home construction, DIY projects, remodeling, etc.
• The Envelope Goes to... (a story about success, suspense, or other exciting news received)

Geek for Die Cutting Techniques

With the many die cutting machines and dies available, the possibilities are endless when it comes to incorporating this staple tool into your scrapbooking. We want to see your fresh approaches and new ways of using die cuts on layouts. Do you have cool ideas for cutting and layering shapes, dressing up cuts with supplies from your stash, using the negative image, or combining cuts with coordinating stamps? Send ‘em on over. Or perhaps you have a completely unexpected and unheard of approach. You know we want to see that. In other words, whatever your ideas may be, we're simply dying to see them! So send them our way, and make sure you include information on the cool technique(s) you used.

Priority will be given to never before seen, 2-page, multi-photo layouts.

Use Your Holiday Stash

Over time, you've likely accumulated an impressive assortment of paper, embellishments, and more, which includes supplies designed to fit specific holiday themes (Christmas, Halloween, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, etc.). The question is, once you've scrapbooked about those fun celebrations throughout the year, what do you do with what's left over? With just a little creativity, you can put your holiday-themed products (paper, rub-ons, ribbon, stickers, etc.) to excellent use on non-holiday designs, which is exactly what we want to see from you. How have you put your stash to work to stretch its miles? Maybe your trick is using the B sides (or back sides) of the themed papers because they're more universal. Or perhaps you grab your scissors or punches and alter the paper to give it a less "holiday" feel (holiday ornaments turned flowers, Halloween candy stickers used on a page about a birthday party, heart doilies used as spray masks to create a unique background, etc.). We know you have tricks for stretching your stash, and we want to see those as they relate specifically to holiday-themed products used on non-holiday scrapbook pages.

Priority will be given to never before seen, 2-page, multi-photo layouts.

Submissions Due
July 15, 2013, at midnight MDT. Submissions received after this time won't be considered.

What to Provide
Please provide a digital image of your photographs. In addition to your image(s), please include any information on techniques or items to note about your image(s).

Photo Tricks

Consider this the Creating Keepsakes model search, and you are just the model we're looking for. Why? Because we want to explore the fun behind the popular trend of snapping selfies (aka photo you take of yourself). Sure, you can stretch your arm out in front of you for a quick selfie moment, but what other ways can you capture your own image without having a photographer on hand? Do you have an interesting mirror technique? Maybe you like to explore options for snapping a shot of your reflection in a window or water? Perhaps your selfies are more on the artsy side, with interesting shots of your shadow or macro shots of your cute features (your hands knitting, your feet dipped in the sand, etc.). Or maybe you choose to use your resources to get the perfect self portrait, such as a camera timer or remote. Don't be shy. We want to see you striking a pose and snapping those selfies. So channel your inner runway model and let the fun begin.

What do you do with the selfies you've taken? Well, you can either send them as standalone images, or you can add them to scrapbook pages to tell us a more complete story. Priority will be given to layouts, but we're open to receiving both, so snap away, even if you only have time to send the picture, and send us images of your cute selfie.

Priority will be given to never before seen, 2-page, multi-photo layouts.

Submissions Due
July 15, 2013, at midnight MDT. Submissions received after this time won't be considered.

What to Provide
Please provide a digital image of your layout or your photo. If you're submitting a two-page spread, please submit each page of the spread as a separate image. In addition to your image(s), please include a detailed supply list and any information on techniques or items to note about your layout.
