Have a Nice Week!
Just giving you all a head's up that I'm outta here Friday afternoon to attend the annual family vacation in Wolfsboro, NH. Bad timing with the new site going up, but you are in good hands with both Leslie and Ana. Having discussed things with them on the phone, I know whatever day they decide to open up the new site, that they'll give you a few days to take it for a test drive before they start responding to questions/concerns. So just keep that in mind as we start to move on over to our new home. It's not that we aren't listening (and believe me, I bet the web team will be there with boxes of popcorn to see how you like it because so much time and effort has already gone into it), but rather we need you all to take it on a shakedown cruise first. Sound good? Good. So have a great week and enjoy all the fun stuff that's coming your way. I'm out!:)

Weekly Digest: 7/3

From the Boards

Inspiring Layouts

  • Think 8.5x11 with those 12x12 elements.
  • Fun paper choice.
  • Last four pages of her gallery show the same supplies being used in different ways. Just neat to see.

    Try This!

  • Two really neat borders. Both easy to create.
  • Use a journaling stamp to create "creases" in a cupcake wrapper.
  • Pick this up at Target and create the perfect little gift album.
  • Use up all that extra chipboard. She's got a boy version as well.
  • Letters covered with several types of Heidi Swapp border tape. Total WOW.

    Just for Fun

  • Don't you love it when inspiration for your embellishments is right there in your photo?
  • I hope she grows up and doesn't change. :)
  • Cupcake toppers.

    Add Your Two Cents

  • CHA Season again. What are you looking forward too? Got any links for us so we can see more?
  • Favorite color combo? Loving dark grey, yellow, and orange right now.
  • How do you stretch your supplies?

    Crazy for Product

  • Fiskars' border punch that I'll be tracking down.
  • I'm not a big fan of the George cartridge that comes with the Cricut. But after seeing this layout, I'm tempted to change my mind. Looks like it's the shadow...and it looks great.
  • Wow. Quite the ensemble.

    FYI

  • IKEA storage...and it's completely alterable.
  • Stickle alternative.
  • I've never had any luck. But maybe this will help you out.
  • Looks like it's possible. Cuttlebug and 12 inch QK dies.

Like You Can Even Say No..
Check this out. Gorg. And cheap! My bet's Martha's next border punch has a heart at the point of the scallops. Just a hunch.

    Page of the Day: 7/2

A lot of thought, creativity, and work went into this page and for that, skrapnfreak deserves a shout out. Browsing through her gallery, she seems to specialize in handcrafted backgrounds. Check it out for some serious inspiration.

    Page of the Day: 7/1

Look closely and you'll find something to delight you on the background paper that crafterbeth choose for her layout. Buttons! Dainty, sweet, and something I think Anne would have very much approved of. So many memories come back to me with this page, and I don't even know Beth! The power of photos, let me tell ya.

Mulitple Choice: The Title of Today's Blog Post Should Be...

  • Yes, yet another birthday card!
  • Why yes, investing in good tools is worth 12 times their weight in disposable supplies.
  • Yes, we all have a creative ego and sometimes we need to lock it in a closet for it's own good.
  • All of the above.

How about all the above? But really, I think the first two options are pretty darn obvious by the photo. Who needs me to go into all that...again? The third choice is a bit more of an enigma when it comes to catch phrases, not to mention a mouthful. I'll explain that one a bit better.

We all hear about developing our own personal "style". An idea I've always found to be bunk. From my standpoint, it's too grandiose a notion. Not that it doesn't have value, but rather we just give it too much thought, agonize too much over it. Scrapbooking equals fun in my book and so friends, the "What's Your Style?" ship has long since sailed on my watch. Bon voyage...don't let the pier hit you in the aft on the way out of dry dock.

I'm all in for easy nowadays. And I like playing with my toys. Other than that, I have no other agenda. I care absolutely zero about getting published again. Of course, you're probably saying, but you get published everyday here on the blog. A bit different really, although I will concede that I'm in an unique position. Truth be told, I could make some easy mad money if I got stuff picked up in the magazine every now and again. Just not that interested. Been there, done that.

So when it came to making this over-the-top girlie card for a certain 4 year old I knew, all I wanted to do was make it as purple and princess-y as possible. I threw on butterflies and bling like I did it everyday. Butterflies? Bling? Yeah, so not me. I sneer in the face of anything glittery. But it is so Sophia and that's what motivated me to go down that particular path. I put aside my likes and dislikes for the recipient. I don't think we do much in this hobby. Would you make a scrapbook page out of somebody's favorite colors even if they didn't match the photo? Would you throw in all their sports memorabilia if you found it conflicted with your design? Or are you instead all the time trying to find that all elusive "style" that you've been told you need to develop? Think about it. I have been lately.

The card turned out nicely this time around. I actually like it. Despite the bling. :)But what I like more than the card is that I know Sophia will get a kick out of it. Strokes my creative ego more than anything right now. New for me and something I'm going to start focusing a bit more on in the future. Anybody going to give it a go along with me?

    Page of the Day: 6/30

Now what would a superhero layout be without a blurred photo? It's as necessary as a secret identity and knee high boots for any decent superhero. Love how Monica M decided to highlight it by enlarging it and using it almost like a background. You get that urgency and sense of drama, but it helps to direct the focus to the photos that are crisp and sharp.

So Bree Van de Camp of Me

So, I'm in a new neighborhood, right? I spy strollers in open garages all the time. I know they are out there hiding in plain sight, those young moms with babies who stay at home like me. But nobody is out there chatting and talking with the neighbors. And it would do us all so much good. I grew up in a neighborhood where all the moms knew each other and the kids ran completely amuck, because we were safe and watched over by all the parents. I want that for me. For Hank. Decided recently to take matters into my own hands to help start creating that, because it didn't look like it was going to spontaneously happen on it's own.

On my walk a few weeks ago, I spied a pregnant lady picking up the mail. Called out a hello and asked when she was due (which was soon). Quick little chat. Told my mom later that I'd like to do something for her, but not knowing even her name, felt a little awkward offering. Mom convinced me that it wouldn't be weird if I offered to bring her family dinner when the baby came.

Had my opportunity a few days later. Walked right up with Hank and said, "Hey, this is really forward of me and a little Desperate Housewives, but I'd like to make you dinner when the baby comes". I'm not sure what she thought (Hank was my foil, thought I'd be less weird with a baby hanging off my hip), but she said yes. Eventually, spotted a pink balloon on her mailbox and knew it was time. Dropped a note off saying I'd be by at 5 on Sunday with dinner.

Then last Friday, Hank and I went to the children's program at the library in town. Got chatting with another girl with a baby and low and behold...she lives four houses down! Told her about not-so-pregnant-now lady and she wanted a piece of the action. So yesterday, the two Desperately Lonely New Momma Housewives took dinner and dessert down and dropped it off. (And would you believe her cookie container was all papercrafted up? Seriously, meant to be.)

Now...magically...the neighborhood is starting to come together. Kills me that everybody is so isolated nowadays. Is it like that in your neighborhood? Everybody not even bothering to learn each other's names? So sad. This week with the holiday weekend is the perfect time to start busting down those walls. Put together a sparkler party on Friday night. Stuff mailboxes with flyers. Get everybody out their houses and mingling! Anything! Just get out there and start meeting the people on your street.

Along with dinner, I brought this little baby gift. Nothing major. Baby socks my mom picked up for me for $2 and a mini washtub from Michael's. This stamp set was made for occasions like these. Papertrey Ink sells these egg boxes to match up with the labels (check out the inspiration here), but despite having a few boxes, I went with the washtub instead. Just easier, faster. A Cricut'ed out duckie ties in with the "hatched" theme. Loving how he looks like he's taking a bath in all the socks.
