Editor's Message: Capturing Summer
Summer is here at last, and with it tons of opportunities for snapping photographs of our favorite sun-filled summer memories. One place that naturally lends itself to great summer pictures is the beach, and by using some simple photo tricks you can make your beach photos even more spectacular. In her photos on the "Construct" layout pictured here, Club CK member gluestickgirl uses the rule of thirds—a photo trick that works especially well for beach photos because of the horizon lines of the beach and the water. The beach is also the perfect place to capture white space photographs.

3 Simple Tips for Surviving the Sun
Summer means sun, but the sun's brightness can sometimes make capturing great photographs challenging. Here are three simple tips to make the sun work for you:

Tip #1: Try shooting directly into the sun to create lens flare, as Helen Tilbury did here in this striking photo, as seen on page 99 of the July/August 2011 issue of Creating Keepsakes.

Tip #2: Play with the positioning of your subjects to avoid harsh shadows. You can also try photographing using a reflector.

Tip #3: Adjust the lighting on photographs that didnít turn out quite like you wanted with photo-editing actions and effects.

Photo tips from CKC
At CK Scrapbook Conventions, we bring you all the best that the industry has to offer. Shopping for the latest and greatest products in the Vendor Faire, classes to learn new skills and techniques, and fun with friends while finishing projects and winning incredible prizes at the evening crops! As we head into the summer season, we also have a few summer photo tips to share:
  • Use the sunlight to your advantage — Use reflectors to help angle the light where you want it, and take photos into the late afternoon sun or at sunset to create beautiful silhouettes.
  • Capture the action — Don't wait for the perfect shot of your kids lined up together on the beach, capture their joy as they run for the water.
  • Pack an extra memory card and battery — The last thing you want is to have the perfect photo op and see "Memory Card Full" or "No Battery" flashing on your camera screen.

Most importantly, SCRAPBOOK those amazing summer photos! CKC is the perfect place to get everything you could possibly need to be able to take your photos from your camera to your albums. So check out to find a CKC near you.
