How to Create a Grid for Orphan Photos
To get caught up faster on scrapbooking her photos (she has thousands!), Stephanie Eksander creates monthly layouts with “orphan photos” and a quick text write-up (see layout below). Here’s how to create her simple template:

1. For a 12" x 12" layout, use digital grid guides to mark off every 3". (You’ll have sixteen 3" squares per page, or 32 squares for two pages.)

2. Using a hard, round digital brush (and holding down the Shift key), create neutral-colored lines to use as the template. (Stephanie loves color and later dropped a key color into the template lines.)

Stephanie fills some of the squares with her title, journaling and doubled-up space for photos that wouldn’t work in a single square. “I try to balance photos of people with photos of nature or animals,” says Stephanie. “Creative cropping is the order of the day—it’s fun to see how an ordinary photo can become extraordinary with cropping.”
