Fun Ways to Use Kraft Color on Scrapbook Layouts

by Dorathy Gilchrist

Understated elegance, charm, sophistication. Kraft paper and raw chipboard can bring these and other qualities to your layouts. Move these supplies from your "not sure what to do with this" stash and create lovely backgrounds and accents that will help put the spotlight where you want it--on your photos and memories.

Combine Kraft with Vibrant Colors

Kraft paper is great to use for scrapbook layout backgrounds, especially if there are bright colors on your page or in your photos, like in "Laughing with Erin." The next time you find yourself in love with a brightly patterned paper and wanting to use a lot of it, try kraft as your background and prepare to be very pleased.

Dry-Emboss Raw Chipboard

Kraft also works well with neutral tones. Piradee Talvanna's photos on "Our Home" are mostly neutral shades, and so dry embossing the chipboard houses is the perfect solution to add elegance to the chipboard without adding distracting color. Try adding a dry-embossed raw chipboard element to your page the next time you are scrapbooking photos without much color.

Uses Raw Chipboard As-Is

Use raw chipboard to create beautiful accent pieces, or as in the case of "Shoes," a title.

Use raw chipboard:

*for a shabby chic look,

*an outdoorsy look,

*a rough-around-the-edges look, or

*to quickly add a nice accent when you're short on time.

Use Kraft in a Scrapbook Album

Because kraft looks well with so many other colors, it's an excellent choice for an entire scrapbook album. Adjust the colors throughout your album while maintaining a balanced, consistent feeling as kraft is carried through each page. Using kraft, Susan Weinroth was able to make her "All Through the Year" album cohesive and lovely, despite changing seasons and topics in her photos.
