Dear Lizzy: Die Cutting in Style
Q: I recently got a Cricut machine, and I've found online videos on how to use it, but I've seen little that goes beyond the basics. I'd love some resources on how to combine, alter or expand the shapes available. —Therese Travis, Monrovia, CA
A: Such a great question! One of the awesome capabilities about die cutting is that you can customize your shapes, especially on the Cricut because you can choose the size of your die cut or choose between shadow and blackout versions. Here are a few accents I created from basic die shapes—see what creative images you come up with. You can also find many discussion groups on the Internet that talk about different ways to use your die-cutting machines. If you search for your machine's name in places like Yahoo Groups (groups.yahoo.com) or Google Groups (groups.google.com), you can find helpful new ideas for your machine!
I used a clover shape to create the tree in this accent.
I used an arrow and a square shape to create this house accent.
I used a cloud and geometric shape to create this cupcake accent
