Countdown to Christmas Ideas
Nothing quite compares to the nervous excitement of the days leading up to Christmas. As I was growing up, my family hung a large advent calendar prominently in our living room. The calendar included a Christmas tree and a stable, and starting on December 1, my siblings and I would take turns each morning putting items from each numbered pocket onto the tree or stable. This continued until the scene was complete on Christmas Eve with baby Jesus in the manger. I still like to hang an advent calendar in my home to count down the days until Christmas. I designed the calendar after the one I had when I was young.
In the December 2008 issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine, we showed you five cool advent-calendar projects you can create at home to count down during the holidays. Check out these additional beautiful advent projects you can easily duplicate in your home!

Cindy created an advent project that doubles as wall decor for Christmas. You could hang this banner as a garland in front of the fireplace, above a wide doorway or down low so the kids can move the countdown marker each day! Along with counting down the days, this project includes a pocket with something fun to do that day, such as “make cookies,” “go sledding,” “sing Christmas carols,” or “build a snowman.”
