Computer Tricks Online Bonus: Create Columns for Journaling

Jessica Sprague

As scrapbookers, most of the time we allow our photos to take center stage on our pages. The pictures tell most of the story, and our journaling, title and embellishments play a supporting role. Every now and then, though, it’s great to switch things up and let your words lead the way—especially if you have a great story to tell. To help you create a beautiful, striking page filled with words, I’ll show you how to create journaling in even-sized columns using Photoshop Elements (this works in the full version of Photoshop, too!).

Wonder by Jessica Sprague. Supplies Software: Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0; Printer: Epson R1900; Photo paper: Premium Photo Paper (Semi-Gloss) and Premium Presentation Paper (Matte), Epson; Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper; Chipboard star: Chatterbox; Circle accent: Heidi Swapp for Advantus; Digital patterned paper: Office Girl by Trish Jones; Fonts: Myriad (text) and Ornament Scrolls (swirl accent).

I am amazed at how much my son Elliott loves space, and I wanted to tell him about our experiences with my journaling, accompanied by photos. I arranged my photos in a strip across the bottom of my page, then arranged my journaling in irregular columns. The key to getting the look on this page is making sure to zoom in and line up the journaling lines within the columns.
