Font Size

I have downloaded the font and when I try to use it, I have to increase the size quite a bit...as large as 20 points and Bold just to make it appear similar to a regular Arial 12. What am I doing wrong? This seems to be consistent with most fonts I have downloaded from web sites. I don't have any problems installing them on my computer. Baffled...
